LOCAL AMENITIES IN Clowne

The town benefits from having a large Tesco,  Aldi and Morrisons daily, all located close to Clowne’s high street.  Wilko for all your homewares and outdoor living needs, a pharmacy and a vet. 

In the town centre, there are a number of local, independent shops as well as places to eat and drink. In addition, you can find hair and beauty salons, an optician and a smaller convenience store. 

Go! Active at The Arc leisure in Clowne is a refurbished £4million centre including a 25m swimming pool, children’s pool and flume, Play Kingdom, village changing rooms and thermal suite complete with steam room, sauna, ice fountain and snail shower. The centre offers a varied fitness class timetable along with football, netball, table tennis, basketball and a state of the art fitness suite.

Serving the community is the warm and friendly Clowne community centre. There are organised weekly activities as well as a lounge bar. It also has a large function room which is available to hire for private, community or corporate events.

LEISURE AND ACTIVITIES

Around Clowne town centre there are a variety of bars and pubs. Well known is the cosy Elm Tree Pub, which is under a 10 minute drive away and serves fresh, homemade food. 

Hotel Wildes is a fantastic 69 bedroom hotel in Clowne set in beautiful countryside only 10 minutes drive from Rother Valley.

Close to the town centre, is Balborough Country Park, offering large, green open spaces for walks and also Balborough Links Golf Club comprising of a 9 hole golf course and 8 peg fishing lake. 

Just over a 10 minute car ride away from Clowne is Bolsover Castle, with extensive scenic grounds and fantastic views over Derbyshire, the castle makes a great place to visit. There is also a cafe that offers hot drinks to sweet treats.

TRANSPORT LINKS

Clowne has great road links and is only a couple of miles away from Junction 30 of the M1, in one direction it leads to London and in the other to Leeds. 

Chesterfield Train Station is 9 miles from Clowne and has regular, daily services to major cities including Sheffield, London St Pancras, Leeds and more.

GREEN SPACES

Poolsbrook Country Park is a scenic 180-acre park just over 15 minutes drive away from Clowne.
The park offers a variety of outdoor activities and natural attractions for all the family.

One of the main features is a large lake, perfect for birdwatching and fishing, the home to herons and other wildlife There are numerous trails for walking and cycling, including a one-mile circuit around the lake and paths through the wood. The park includes a children’s play area, picnic spots, and an outdoor gym. It’s a great place for families to enjoy a day out. You can stop at the volunteer-run café for refreshments and take in the scenery one one of the park picnic benches.
